invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill existing
vacancies in the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs,
Headquarters, Victoria Island, Lagos.
1.
DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION AND FINANCE
The Director of Administration and Finance shall be responsible to
the Director-General for the day-to-day administration and for the
fiancés of the Institute and shall act as the Secretary to the
Governing Council and also to coordinate the activities of the
Departments’s five divisions namely, Establishment and Management
Services, General Administration; General Services; Accounts and
Finance; Marketing and Distribution Divisions respectively.
QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must possess a good honours first degree from a
recognized University preferably in the Social Sciences, Public
Administration etc. A post graduate qualification together with an
Advanced Management Training in administration can serve as an
additional advantage. The candidate should not be more than 50 years
old by 1st October, 2010.
EXPERIENCE
The candidate should have not less than twenty (20) years post
qualification working experience in an academic or research
institution of comparable standing of which at least eight (8) of
the twenty (20) years must have served in a top Management position
of not below the rank of an Assistant Director. The candidate must
have foresight in order to be able to lead a team of highly
motivated Staff, should also possesses managerial skills to meet the
challenges of modern times.
TERMS AND CONDITION OF SERVICE
The Director of Administration and Finance shall hold office for
four years in the first instance and may be appointed for a second
and final term of four years. The salary is consolidated and the
appointee shall enjoy other benefits of the office as may be
approved from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
All appointments will be on permanent basis, would commence as soon
as possible. An appointee would be on probation for the first two
years and would be considered for confirmation to retirement age
thereafter/at the expiration of its two terms, to be based on
satisfactory performance. Other conditions of service as stated in
the Institute Staff Condition of Service.
2.
DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY AND DOCUMENTATION SERVICES
The Director of Library and Documentation Services shall be
responsible to the Director-General for the activities and
maintenance of the Library of the Institute. The Library is a
depository to the United Nations, the World Bank, African Union,
ECOWAS publications as well as all Agreements and Treaties entered
into by Nigeria. It also has an audio-visual archive consisting of
tapes derived from the Library’s Oral Documentation Project.
QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate must possess a good honours First degree preferably in
the Social Sciences and post-graduate Library qualifications can
serve as an additional advantage. The candidate should not be more
than 50 years old by 1st October, 2010, and should also
have to his/her credit publications in reputable journals.
EXPERIENCE
The candidate should have not less than twenty (20) years
post-graduation cognate administrative experience, of which at least
eight (8) of the twenty years must be in Senior Management position
in a large academic or research Library is desirable, while training
and/or experience in Library ICT will be an advantage. The candidate
must have foresight in order to be able to lead a team at highly
motivated Staff.

The same as above for the Director of Administration and Finance of
the Institute.
3.
DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH AND STUDIES
The Department coordinates the research activities of the Institute
through its five divisions namely: International Politics;
International Law and Organisation; International Economic
Relations; Security and Strategic Studies and African Politics and
Integration.
POSITIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS
(a)
ASSOCIATE
RESEARCH PROFESSOR
A good honours degree in International Law or Economics with a
higher degree such as doctorate with several publications in
local and international journals; with at least 15 years
experience not less than 8 years at a University or Research
Institution and ability to initiate academic research projects.
The candidate should possess research capability and analytical
skills in the field of International Law or International
Economic Relations;
(b)
SENIOR RESEARCH
FELLOW
A good honours degree in the International Law or Economics with
a higher degree such as doctorate with at least 10 years in an
academic or research institution;
Ability to initiate and develop research project with
substantial scholarly publications in local and international
journals.
